Since summer is in full swing, what better cocktail to share than the Alabama Slammer. The origin of the drink is debated, however most believe it was created at The University of Alabama in 1975. Often served as a shot, we decided to recreate the highball version, allowing for a more pleasurable tasting experience. All of the components harmonise perfectly together to create a creamy, nutty and fruity cocktail.
The Alabama Slammer scores a difficulty of 3/10. It requires basic skills to assemble and the components are readily available – you may even have them already!
The Alabama Slammer is everything you would expect from a cocktail created in the 1970s – bright and colourful. The red of the drink is unapologetically vivid and will certainly stand out from the crowd. We garnished the drink with an orange quarter and a sprig of basil to play with even more colours.
This drink is multi-layered with compounding flavours, each lending themselves to bring out a note in another. For example, the sloe gin emphasises the cherry and nutty flavours from the Amaretto and the sweetness of the grenadine is heightened by the liqueur from the Southern Comfort. Overall, the orange juice delivers a creamy taste and texture.
