The Abuela’s Jardin is a refreshing cocktail created by Código 1530, featuring their Reposado tequila. The most prominent flavour element of the Abuela’s Jardin is herbal, which is emphasised with the inclusion of Chamomile Turbonado Syrup and bitters. We used the Orange & Mandarin Bitters from Bob’s Bitters which really amped up the flavour. As opposed to the usual blended-bitters, Bob’s Bitters are single flavours, which allow you to really highlight a specific taste and element. The Reposado tequila is based upon the beauty of the Blanco, and aged in hand-charred Napa Valley Cabernet French White Oak barrels for six months. This adds complex tasting notes such as toasted caramel and vanilla.

The Abuela’s Jardin scores a difficulty of 4/10. The ingredients included are basic and easy to acquire. However, you may choose to make the Chamomile Turbonado Syrup, as opposed to buying it, which requires extra time and effort.

Since summer is in full swing, what better cocktail to share than the Alabama Slammer. The origin of the drink is debated, however most believe it was created at The University of Alabama in 1975. Often served as a shot, we decided to recreate the highball version, allowing for a more pleasurable tasting experience. All of the components harmonise perfectly together to create a creamy, nutty and fruity cocktail.

The Alabama Slammer scores a difficulty of 3/10. It requires basic skills to assemble and the components are readily available – you may even have them already!

The margarita is one of the most popular tequila-based cocktails. The Skinny Rosa Margarita is a refreshing cocktail created by Código 1530, featuring their Rosa tequila. One flavour element of the Código 1530 Rosa tequila is citrus, which is emphasised with the inclusion of fresh lime and orange juice. The drink is topped up with club soda, which provides a fresh and slightly salty taste, very typical of a classic margarita. Furthermore, adding salt on the rim of the glass will amplify the fresh lime juice and ease the tequila’s sharpness.

The Skinny Rosa Margarita scores a difficulty of 4/10. The ingredients included are basic and easy to acquire. However, the addition of a salted rim results in an extra step and a new technique for those beginning their cocktail journey.

If you’re looking for a bitter cocktail, the Rosa Martini created by Código 1530 is for you. The ‘Rosa’ in Rosa Martini pays homage to the tequila used in this cocktail, Código 1530 Rosa. The tequila itself has quite prominent sweet and citrus flavours that harmonise with the fresh grapefruit juice. The addition of bitters ensures the natural bitter aftertaste of the grapefruit juice is emphasised throughout very sip. Overall, this is a very mature cocktail.

The Rosa Martini cocktail scores a difficulty of 2/10. With only three core ingredients it is very simple to make but doesn’t compromise on the taste.
